I'm almost 100% sure I have either ADHD or Autism or both. One of my kids has both, my husband has Autism and my daughter is on the waiting list for diagnosis, but I'm not sure what benefit there would be for me of getting a diagnosis.

Apologies for the long ass comment, but I felt the need to share too. I just made the call to book an appointment to talk about this with my doctor. Been meaning to for a year... I relate to so much of what you said, especially the whole thing about working and having a job. I'm 23, the longest I've kept a job is 6 months, and that's an internship through my current education... Other than that I worked for 4 months, literally 1-2 times a week and I hated it. I couldn't do it. I dreaded it every day. I, too, am an artist and have been drawing for years, also spent a good amount of time drawing in class, but unlike you, they never really made a big deal out of it. I was friends with the popular girls, and so I was viewed as one of them by my teachers, even though I actually wasn't. I was just friends with them, but never the popular kid. I have 0 interest in math or science or social studies, and I've always just barely passed. I've had things explained a million times because I keep forgetting them, or not understanding because it simply just doesn't interest me. I recieved one-on-one math classes while the rest of the class had regular math class, because I was so behind, and no one questioned it. No one was like "hm maybe she has ADD or ADHD", it was just never mentioned. However, I can tell you a lot about how roller coasters work, who manufactures them, how they function and what models are scattered throughout the world, because it interests me! I rode horses for almost a decade because I started playing a horse-game in 7th grade, I'm currently a figure skater because I was obsessed with Yuri!!! on Ice in 9th grade, and my room is full of mushroom stuff because I learned a fun fact about them 2 years ago (among many other things). I hyperfixate on a lot of stuff, and lose interest again a few weeks later, resulting in buying things and filling my brain with random knowledge that pushes out the stuff I need to know and learn to function in society. It's a blessing and a curse. Now I really struggle as an adult, who's expected to be able to do all of these things, like maintaining a job, but the sheer thought of it stresses me out so much. I genuinly feel like jobs and working is in the way of doing what I want, which is my hobbies and interests, but the problem is I can't do those hobbies and interests if it becomes a full time thing; then it becomes a chore and something I have to do because someone else requested it or bought it. I genuinly don't know what to do with my life anymore, I hate the idea of having to work until I'm old, just because that's what everyone else does. My brother and my mom probably also have ADHD, we've talked about it. They both struggle with alchohol, especially my mom, and she's tried everything. Nothing helps. I'm really curious to see what would happen if she got an ADHD assessment and got that treated... So anyway, yeah, I'm really curious to see what my doctor has to say :DD 🤣

It's hilarious the writing was on the wall!! And I bet you're also realizing most of your audience also has ADHD 😂I was also late diagnosed with ADHD and the second I learned about what ADHD was, I realized most of the people I follow online are also most likely ADHD. It's definitely something about the cadence of the way people speak/edit their videos that makes it more interesting to follow.

So sad. A book by a real artist would have cost so much less. The Illusion of Life itself cost me only about $60 I bought more than 10 years ago. No wonder it cost $95. Too pricey. I price my books at so much less. Thanks for sharing your experience.

it's very different from your story, but I remember the time I first heard of this phenomena called "mysophonia". suddenly I had a name for how I feel and a community, I'll never forget that moment. it explained so much of my life. it's under researched and doesn't actually have a "cure" per say, but knowing it's a thing, that other people have it, that there's an actual name for it!! it's such a comforting feeling.. I didn't actually have a reason to change anything about my life according to that but I found solace in knowing other people concocted their own solutions to the problem, most of them the exact way I did all through my life. this thing had always affected my family and social life, my relationships, my ability to function around people, my mood and mental state. and nobody ever got it. I was just considered "badly educated, ill mannered". thank goodness for my mom who always supported me and never let other people say any mean thing without defending me immidiatly. so I hear you. even though it's different, I hear you.

I think the hardest part about my late diagnosis is my childhood is littered with memories of my teacher mother telling me stories about "this kid is definitely on the spectrum, that kid has ADHD." But never picked it up in her own children. It was just the nuances of my personality

My ADHD superpower is my committed and dedication to the things I find interest in. I'm studying Marine Biology which is a huge fascination of mine, and as such have been 'very studious' and people consider me intelligent and knowledgeable (I hyperfocus and spend way too long on a topic, neglecting other bodily needs, but hey, medication helps with that)

I found school really hard and I did it without support from the school because I am smart and I can get good grades and so despite being miserable and depressed to them I was just a kid who got As and so I was fine, nothing to worry about there. Like you I accepted myself and self diagnosed before getting an official diagnosis of being autistic but I’m glad I went and got it because it means now that I’ve started uni after highschool with accommodations I could never have dreamed of before and no self doubt in my neurodivergence and that has been so good. I’m still learning what my super powers are but I love medical biology but I also love to dance and paint and be creative. I am very observant of my surroundings and notice things other people don’t. Hyper focus although exhausting is really helpful and having special interests have been so interesting to me and have helped me learn about this community and other areas of the disabled community. I’m glad you are in a good place and I’m glad you have such a holistic and positive outlook on neurodivergence because it is so important for all of us. Keep using your strengths for good 😀.

Your reports are basically almost identical when it comes to the comments on the reports 😂 I don't think my teachers parents or I truly understood anything about ADHD so my "textbook" work always never either got done completely nor did i pass a lot other than my shop classes (woodworking, engineering classes , tech, IT, basically anything hands on) i did fairly well and was about the only subject i truly passed with minimal effort. Im currently sat in limbo of my life, but still tranna figure me out so i can get going on life. Im 21 and am at home. unable to go on because school for lack of a better way to say it, is just not working no matter how hard i tried. Tho in terms of " superpower " , I am able to figure out a lot of in house stuff fairly easy just by looking at things which has made me a amateur handyman any basic maintenance ive figured out and yea, but where im from (South Africa) you have to have a matric certificate to get even a basic start off job. Or unless you know someone who's looking for help. but yea maybe there are things that dont need that paper, but ive looked and ive seen nothing. Anyways Thats my journey atm, at a standstill till i findout next step becuz everyday feels like dayblending where time in irrelevant and all you see is day night but no idea what time it is or what day it is. Everyday just felt the same even tho im still doing my little projects till i figure the next step.... Still hopeful for a future tho havent given up even if i have to learn on my own. Going into the robotics and software development is still what i want. Robotics because it gives me freedom to create cool little robots to software dev'in to make that hunk of metel move in realistic ways that i image. Been learning Python recently while i have all the time in the world right now. building a robots is expensive so havent been able to just dive in the deep end of that. but watching videos of people make cool robots like on Hacksmiths YT the mega spider they made. is what i want to be making too. Or like Mark Rober in his engineering career either software or not its such cool ideas. Ive never been good at art but building things like molding, or clay work is art and is hands on where i can turn my brain off and just go with whatever feel right to make thing. Ive made a concrete Water fountain for our house. Kinda broke after some strong winds becuz i forgot to attach the pieces together. But it still works just fine

I guess I felt at home through your content because we were actually in the same brain-family. Welcome to the club, Josiah, and welcome to the uncensored world of you ❤ I wish you the best!😊

After following through this video, I'd be curious to get a diagnosis too... I mean, when I was in school, I also drew all the time, if I didn't have paper I would drew on the desk, or even walls, teachers and professors couldn't stop me, but my grades where good nonetheless, I was able to learn and study quite fast, even the day before the test or interrogation, and still get good votes. Now i'm 26 and I still draw, craft cosplays, always changing my mind, always in need of new ways to get myself distracted. I've been in a very bad mental state for years now, even diagnosed for depression, taking pills, but I have always been curious to find more about myself, who I really am, and maybe ADHD could actually be a thing

Hey Jazza, thats awesome you're finding some alternative ways. Don't completely discount Ritalin. It's been a complete lifesaver for me. We do have the superpower of hyperfocus but the string of consistent thoughts is quietened by the Ritalin so you can focus on the tasks you don't find so interesting. See how you go with the coach, i'd be keen to hear. A little tip - the minute you have an appt somewhere, verbally ask your phone to make the appointment in your calendar. Even just the task of doing that can help you remember without the reminder. It's saved me so frequently!

I've never been diagnosed but for me neurodivergent is a pretty silly name for it, for everyone is different in their thinking process. We're not all programmed the same. I know I tend to enjoy silliness but stupidity makes me aggressive which is why I can hate the deadpool films but love the lastest deadpool/wolverine film since Wolverine calms me down with the aggression shown to deadpool even though I hate pain and hate even the idea of hurting someone else, but knowing it's fictional makes it a lot more acceptable to me. My son gets similar complains in school but he's diagnosed with something else. so yeah, made me wonder if more people in my family have it and my younger brother thinks we all have to various degrees. I never had those sorts of criticism, if anything my teachers complained I was too quiet so my yr 12 teacher was shocked when she complained about me and my mum just about celebrated getting a complaint of talking too much during class LOL

You've done remarkably well as someone who has this condition, and wasn't aware- it is evident unfortunately due to how hard I've seen you be to yourself throughout the years. You've been an utter inspiration to me and so many other people neurodivergent and neurotypicals alike and have unknowingly given us such comfort and community, a sense of belonging. You sharing your struggles on your platform have helped me with my neurodivergent struggles, through some really dark times. I am so excited to see how you thrive, now with the knowledge and hopefully growing compassion for yourself now you’ve a diagnosis. As someone who recieved her diagnosis just over a year ago; believe me, it changes so much- I am so happy for you!

Welcome to the late diagnosed-club! ❤️ It sucks not getting the answer sooner. I got my adhd and autism diagnosis a few months ago - at 33. Living a whole life with these struggles sure leaves its marks. But now it’s all about getting to know oneself completely ❤️
